  1. They charge huge prices because they can get away with it.  Basically, all you're buying is the brand name.

  2. because of their trade names... within years they build their brand name to the customers, if something wrong came up with their brand thats a sure fire to get their name all messed up... thats why branded clothes are expensive... after all, you get the best out of your money even if it expensive...

  3. http://www.kanaccassecret.com/shopdispla...

  4. they dont have anything special. you are just buying the brand

  5. Because they are popular and trendy. They bank (literally) on the idea that if they market their clothes to kids, tell them that they aren't cool unless they wear them, then slap a $40 price tag on something that only cost them $2 to make, then they profit. Even more interesting is that they take new jeans, beat them up and overprice them as well. No thank you. I had a pair of jeans that I got from Goodwill (they originated from Express) that already had the worn spots "washed" in. They got lighter with frequent wear, of course. The hole came when I tripped and skinned my knee. Now I'm "trendy" for less than $5. (I was bummed. Now I don't wear them to church and dress-casual events anymore.) The dress on which I've received the most compliments came from a sorority Dumpster eight or nine years ago. It's long and tube-style (I think) and black and stretchy. I wore it when I weighed a mere 150 and when I was up to 180. When I was pregnant, it showed my baby belly beautifully. I liked moving out weekend. That's when I would go treasure hunting. (My husband's and my bed comforter came from one of those excursions.)

All of the high school and college kids I know who say things like $30 (or even $25) for a Tshirt is cheap still live at home  where Mommy and Daddy pay for everything and they don't have to be fiscally mature and responsible.

Personally, I don't buy it-- Literally and figuratively. In my 31 years I have never paid more than $22 (the boots I bought last fall cost that much) for an article of clothing. I buy things as cheap as possible and keep them for as long as possible. If I don't find it at Goodwill, or rummage sales, etc. I will break down and buy new if I literally need them. Like the black suit with both pants and skirt and two fitted Ts I found and Steve and Barry's for all $8.90 each. Classic styles that will last me a few years. Most of my other dressy-casual fitted Ts [all of which I got second hand] were getting old and faded or don't really fit anymore due to weight gain and have been downgraded to pajama Ts. It killed me that day when I bought the Tshirts that I was paying the same price for the clothes I was buying for my 11-month-old daughter. The purple and white striped golf shirt might just be used again for another daughter. The jeans, at least, are unisex. (Most of the baby clothes we received as a gift go up to 12 months and some of those are already fitting her.)

The day may come when $20 for one article of clothing is considered incredibly cheap. However, I want to teach my daughter the basics of what I think-- Buy as cheap as possible and keep it for as long as possible. Buy second hand when you can and, if possible, support organizations in which the money goes to something good. Make what you get your own style.

This is what I do at least and it works for me.
