Why are brand names censored on Television?

Often on television and in music videos i see brand names are blurred out or censored.

An example... the soulja boy video for crank dat..

and just in television if there is a bottle of a coke.. the coca cola will be blurred out..

I have a rough idea why but would like a full explanation please.

  1. In the UK it is illegal for broadcasters to advertise products on tv unless they are in commercials or sponser slots (the bits at the start and end of a show).


  2. because it's free advertising.
