  2. Because they're sodium lights.

    That's the colour the sodium glows at naturally.

    I suppose the next question is why use sodium lights. They must be energy efficient but maybe someone else knows that for sure.

    By the way I think orange light is horrible.

  4. They use Sodium - its vapour is incandescent when heated. The light is orange, but cheaper than whiter light.

  5. so they can be seen in fog, orange is seen better than white.. just like when playing football, in foggy weather an orange ball is used
