Why are cable companies so greedy?

I currently have a bundled service with Charter Communication, but my promotion is going to end on June 1st and I am requesting for a deal but they won't budge. I currently pay $62 before tax for Expanded Basic Cable, 5 Mbps Internet, and domestic long distance phone, which i think is a great deal and am willing to stay with them and I am even willing to pay a little more, but when I called back and asked they wanted $58 just for cable tv service alone and I was like F**K YOU. Shouldn't they try to keep customers and make some money instead of having the person take their business to the competition. I can get Dish Network HDTV for $29.99 with a 24 month contract but I would rather stay and get digital for $29.99 because I am a loyal customer but I guess my business means nothing to them. Charter seriously needs a better retention department,

  1. This is why most people convert to a dish system. When the cable cos. are finished the dish people will start the same tactics when a new medium is found. It's called progress.  ???

  2. Sorry the company answers to the stock holders.  They need to show a profit.  You will have to pony up the extra money or shop for a better deal.

  3. Charter doesn't necessarily need a better retention department, the customers need a better idea of the cost of doing business.

Keep in mind that a majority of Charter's cost is subsidized.  And this doesn't take into account the cost the networks charge Charter, so they can provide the channel to the subscriber.

It's entirely up to you whether you stay or go.  But keep in mind that they are a business, and shareholders press them to be profitable.  Just because you think the fees are too high doesn't mean it's the companies fault.  You do have options.

Kind of like filling up for gas.  As the gas station why they keep charging you so much in gas.  Explain to them that you have been coming to them for years and you deserve a discount, otherwise your going to another station.  Or how about groceries, tell the store you've been shopping for that you should get a discount because your loyal and you've been shopping there for years.

Is it starting to make sense to you now?
