Why are canadian dollar stores so much better than the ones in the states?

I'm from florida, but everytime I visit canada, the dollar stores astound me with such a wide array of things. I can find firewire cables, tire jacks, h**l, some of them (although illegally) sell beer!

I wonder if the eclectic mix of immigrants is to blame?

You're right -- our dollar stores are amazing. I remain to be convinced on the toiletries, but the home, garden, kitchen, and office supplies are great.

It's funny you compare the two countries; I thought for sure this was an American idea, since everything there is so inexpensive. (Your dollar menus are our dollar-forty menus, etc.)

firewire cables, tire jacks and beer? unless those items sell for under $3.00 each - it's not really a dollar store - it's just a cheap low priced stuff store
