Question:

Why are car drivers so irresponsible on the road?

I've been riding motorbikes for a short while now, after driving for about 7 years, and from day one, the first time I stepped onto a motorbike, I've had grief from terrible car driving.

The very first day, I, and others in my group had drivers tailing literally just a few feet from our bikes, and I know in my case it was intentional as the idiot child was grinning and refused to back off all the way down one road, then swerved dangerously close right into my lane as she came past on a short dual carriageway!

Since then I've had to deal with people cutting me off while filtering (WHICH IS PERFECTLY LEGAL), try to interrogate me about using parking spaces to park my bike (EH?) and a general lack of awareness on the road. No indicating to change lanes, on roundabouts, and today I had some woman actually cut me up on a roundabout (serves me right for driving safely and at reasonable speeds). Again I know this was intentional from the big satisfied grin of the idiots face.

WHY?

  1. IQ tests should be compulsory with driving tests, too many idiots and boy racers on the road! Not all drivers are bad, but some are just so annoying and are actually quite dangerous.

  2. I drive my car like I ride my motorcycle. There are lots of nutball bikers out there who take needless chances, but one thing I don't see is very many bikers exibiting road rage. You have to ride like they don't see you, because 99 percent of the time you're probably right.

  3. there are many reasons drivers are irresponsible, they do not pay attention, they don't care or they are too busy talking on their cell phones, etc.

  4. impossible to say, i believe nowadays we almost all of us suffering of stress, sometimes people don't think and don't watch... in UK there are bus lane operating only a certain times of the day, people still not use them causing several traffic jams for example...be careful in this season there area bunch of people who drink and drive

  5. I took my car driving test long before the 'theory' section came in. This is supposed to make drivers better?.. NOT!.

My instructor , as I remember , was very strict with me. He had taken his job very serious and therefore has had an influence on me even today. Cyclists ans motorcyclists are far more 'in danger' than other drivers who sit in a cosey environment. Once I gave a cyclist plenty of room before attempting to overtake him. If I hadn't turned my head to the right beforehand , the idiot behind ME would have crashed into me. He didn't even think he did anything wrong. PURE SELFISHNESS AND ARROGANCE!!

  6. A more accurate title should be 'why are some car drivers irresponsible on the road'.  I know what you mean though, as a car user I'm shocked at the amount of bad drivers out there.

You'll probably find these people are wan kers in every day life also.

  7. I would say that "road rage" has spread from the US to your country.

    maybe?

  8. Im a car driver & I agree with you some peoples respect for motobikes & their riders is shocking. as a car driver I of course try to drive with the rules of the road. but i had a few scary lessons on a motorbike, no thanks never again........

I always try to give as much space for a motobike as if it was a car, too my horror idiots slot themselves inbetween me & the bike infront leaving inches between them.

I find Roundabouts a nightmare these days so many idiots seem to just put their foot down & go with the attitude that the quicker they go the more "Coming from the right" rule belongs to them.

I dont envey you riding a bike, especially as as much of a carefull driver as I try to be I know their are too many idiots out there.

  9. Well I myself am a car driver, but I do not do anything like that. I am always aware of motor bikes on the road but then maybe that is because I used to ride one myself.  I know what you mean about bad drivers though, they seem to be on the increase, some just don't look where they are going and others seem to get some weird satisfaction out of driving like an idiot and cutting people up or driving really close, like it is a game or something. Just yesterday I saw a guy driving down the road constantly using his horn, for no reason, non- stop beeping, and yelling out the window, it was very yobbish behaviour. I have had times when I have stopped at traffic lights, they were red, so you know, you have to stop, but the idiot behind me keeps beeping at me and I am like what the h**l are you on? Do you not understand the rules of the road? It really annoys me and these people should just not be allowed on the road, take them all off and the roads will be much safer!

  10. There are only two things I do not like about motor cyclists one of which by the nature of the machine cannot be helped  because due to the width they are often hidden behind an obstruction and the other is the understandable habit of squeezing between two vehicles in a traffic snarl up. In fairness I would say that in a collision between an experienced motor cyclist and a motorist is is not usually the motorcyclist who is in the wrong he is just too aware of his vulnerability . An inexperienced motor cyclists is possibly as bad if not worse than a motorist

  11. 90% of bike accidents are caused by bikers-also arrogant driving is a biker speciality(sit at traffic lights in town for proof)i think your problem is that now you only have half a car you feel castrated(and if you undertake me at the lights you will be)now go away and let some air out of your over inflated ego as riding your bike in that mood will make you even more dangerous.oh and i also ride a bike OFF ROAD+SAFELY!

  12. I dunno you get some silly people on the road. Even as a car driver I've had trouble. Drivers not signalling a rounder abouts, over taking on the left, following to close and a few weeks ago I was driving down a road and car was behind me. I put my left signal to signal that I was going to be turning left in to my Nan's drive and as I was turning this numpty passes me on the left the side that I'm turning towards and he goes between me and my Nan's drive as I'm turning in there. You just have to be sensible on the roads and be aware of other drivers, driving.

  13. becuase every driver is arrogant, you have to be on the roads these days
