  1. Certain products have very high IPI (tax on industrialized products), cars for example. Some have import taxes very high (eletronics, even when made here they have imported parts in them)...

the real overvalued against the dollar makes a lot more things expensive as well.

Sao Paulo and Rio and high on the most expensive cities to live in nowadays. 2 years ago they were 120 and 125 or so

now they are 31 and 35, and thats worldwide.

    bummer :-(

  2. It is calles "market economy", North-America can afford certain prices due to volume sales (almost 300Million hungry buyers-consumers!), rotation and cash flow.

Brasil altough with almost 200Million people ONLY 10% can afford such a lifestyle. Thus only 20Million, quite a market differential!

Plus other issues, like efficiency, productivity, inflation, currency exchange, goverment interference, taxes, etc. etc.!

  3. Imported products have a tax of 60% over the original price.

A Nikon D40, digital camera sold for USD 600.00 in the USA, costs about R$ 2.800,00 or about 1,400.00 dollars!

  4. because the rates for foreigner products are so expensive!

for example, a nintendo wii costs USD 250 in USA

in Brazil, when you buy at a cheaper price, you pay USD 600!!!

    a Wii it's just a example.

but food is cheaper than other countries like Germany or United Kingdom!!!

Imagine how it makes the science dificult? imagine how many we pay for a computer or a equipment for laboratory?

    Welcome to Brazil!
