  1. All cops are naturally suspicious because their life depends on it. Plus, they deal with liars everyday. You'd be suspicious too.

  2. It comes with the job and from dealing with dirtbags.

  3. Police chiefs and lieutenants tend to simply look for corroborating evidence to support any position you attempt to persuade them to believe. Such inviduals are trained to view information objectively, which causes them to question and verify claims methodically. Quite the opposite of paranoia based on unfounded suspicion. These individuals are better informed and better educated than patrolmen.

The average cop out on the street is a different story. They tend not to be as well informed or sharp as their superiors. Consequently, you may be able to offer such an individual evidence to corroborate what you say, but whether or not you are believed is pretty much a c**p shoot. Its been my experience when dealing with trying to get lawmen to enforce restraining orders and matters of that nature, that the patrolmen do NOT do the right thing unless they have a sergeant forcing them to do so. They have difficulty seeing the forest for the trees.

...when in doubt its always best to deal with a sergeant or a lieutenant and not trust the patrolman to make the right judgment call.
