My apologies, I didn't mean to generalize, no intention there. Thanks for your replies =) I really appreciate it.

  1. i believe there are a small percentage that have perceptual problems-that make them feel especiallly uneasy when up high

can be a result of sensory integration issues---something to do with gravitational perception

  2. Its not jsut kids with specal needs who are afraid. I know some school valvictornas(sp?) who are afraid of heights. It just depends on the person and not everyone with specal needs are afraid.

  3. Not all are.  It's the about the same numbers as in the general population.  Psych. research shows infants won't walk out over clear surfaces if they can see down.  It's internal.

You are trying to generalize a whole population, that doesn't work.  Just because a child is LD in Math, doesn 't mean he won't go up in an elevator to the top of a building.  This is may be something you have seen and generalized but it is false.   Sorry to sound so pedantic, I'm a school psychologist and work with SpEd kids of all types and  my degree in psychology is showing!  :-)

  4. Not all are, I know many children that have learning disablities for various reasons and some love heights.

  5. Not all children with learning difficulties are afraid of heights. Some children, especially those with autism have no fear of anything at all.
