  1. Australia isn't big enough either in population or in economic power to be a G8 nation, however being a part of the Commonwealth does not mean that Australia has representation through the UK. Take Canada as an example, they are a former British colony, and are still a part of the British Commonwealth, yet are a G8 nation. The only reason Australia would need to be a G8 representative is for the Oceanic region to have a voice on the committee, but that is what the G20 is for. Just a random fact though, Australia has the highest nominal GDP per capita of any nation in the G20 according to the International Monetary Fund, even with the smallest population of these 20 nations.


     


    And China should not be a G8 member until they become a democracy.
