Question:

Why are college students usually liberals?

I understand that virtually every university instructor is a flaming liberal and tries to indoctrinate their students to be the same. But, I would imagine that post-high school kids would rebel against authority rather than allow themselves to be led by the nose. I see kids rebelling against everything else, why not the indoctrination? Why don't they try to understand two or three or four sides to an issue? Where is the desire to learn?

  1. If you're young and not liberal, you have no heart, if you are older and not a conservative, you have no brain.

  2. You haven't actually been on campuses much since Reagan was President, have you?

  3. because there professors are the hippies and anti-war druggies of the 60's. Liberal Arts Why are college students rated so low on the world education scale? Same reason

  4. They are young and naive and have had everything handed to them. Real life will soon turn many of them into conservatives.

  5. They love their country and hot blooded but they don't find anyone is "perfect" leader as they think the ideal leader should be.

  6. There has not been a true generation of rebels since the 60's. On the contrary kids today are happy with a TV, video game, and IPOD and some beer. I guess being a rebel is too much work for them.

  7. Are you new? Where is the desire to LEARN?  Ha. Students just want to drink, smoke dope, s***w and watch American Idol. Most kids don't have much money and want to change the system, which pretty much defines them as liberals. Many of them will buy into the status quo as they get older and richer, and that's where conservatives come from. No one wants to see any side of an issue other than the one he/she agrees with any more. We're poorer as a nation for it, too.

  8. I don't think this is necessarily true. I would say that many college students are getting out on their own for the first time and feel like they are able to express themselves and their opinions more openly.

  9. often, when they go liberal, they are rebelling against authority. they just don't have the experience to realize socialism doesn't work.

  10. because when you are young and unburdened with responsibility it is easy to be idealistic.

  11. Part of it is that alot of people my age think that they're something special and can change the world for the better. They also don't have to pay for anything as they are generally financially supported by their parents. I think alot of it is ignorance and a naivety about how things actually work. The people in college that I have encountered in college who are liberals are also generally distrustful of others, believing in their worst intentions and are keen to have the government "control" the masses.

  12. Actually, I've had a History Professor named Michael Allen, one of the author's of A Patriot's History of the United States, a decidedly conservative history and touted as the answer to Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States. The idea that kids are indoctrinated in college is laughable and is a position held only by people who A) never went to college so have no idea what they're talking about or B) went to college and were hugely unpopular loners and are mad about it.  The fact is that there are no shortage of conservatives on college campuses.  Have a nice day.
