Why are commercials on any given channel so loud compared to the actual program being played?

  1. I do not know but I certainly do not like it. I also notice that different channels will be consistently louder than others, and I also noticed for some time that modern movies, with all their technological "advances" have yet to govern the volume range as well as older movies, which did not make it impossible to hear the whispers of voices and then blast your eardrums out with overblown volumes of explosions or other louder noises.


  2. The answer to this is quite simple.  Think about it -- when do you generally get up and get a snack, go to the bathroom, etc.?  It's not during the show -- it's during the commercial.  When you do these things you leave the room that the TV is in.  So, in order for you to STILL hear the TV and the ad that's on, the advertisers make the commercial louder than the show.

  3. So you listen up and get excited about the amazing product that they are selling or so you wonder why the ad for product ABC is so loud and then think of it next time you are at the store.
