  1. Skills shortage.   Less supply than demand ==> higher wages.

    Companies don't want that, so they say there is a skills shortage.  That drives more people into the industry, creating even more supply and allowing the wages to stay the same or go down.  Unfortuantely, not all jobs (nurses, IT, etc...) are getting more people trained, so there is an excuse to bring in cheap foreign labor.

    There are shortages in specific skills, but generally it is a reason to import mexican nurses and Indian programmers.

  5. How are they going to train you if you cannot read or believe fractions are advance math.  They have all the bullet stopps they need.
