Why are construction barrels orange?

Why are construction barrels orange? The color that reflects the most light is red so why don't they make construction barrels red? Is it because traffic lights are red?

because its a bright color and people will notice it.

Orange is the color of construction/road work... all signs pertaining to it are orange, as are the warning cones and barrels. Red is only used to signify that you should stop, like on stop signs and, yes, red lights.

Orange is more visible than red. Go out there and see if there are any red barrels.

it is so they are easily seen. red is used for a lot of other things, but you rarely see orange.
