Why are cotton fabrics prohibitted in swimming pools?

Because they can release dye into the water and they become see through when wet

Probably because of the lint that would collect in the filter?I've never heard of this, I'm only guessing.

Because the cotton fibers can get caught in the filter and cause it to break.

Cotton fibers plug up the filters and ruin the filters.

Remember, before the mid 1960's, YMCA rules were for nude swimming only because of cotton fibers in most all swimwear of the day. Of course, no women allowed at the pool at the time.
