Why are customers so mean today?

I work in a retail environment and have noticed customers want to do anything they please and if they cannot they threaten to notify your boss as if he/she would allow them to break his/her rules. Sometimes though you get bosses would do anything a customer asks too. What gives?

I am talking about opening products and using them before paying. Putting their work on the counter instead of using the tables and chairs provided. Walking behind the counter. Bringing their dogs in and stolling them on the counter. I could go on ...

  1. You'll find that it's mostly not the fault of the shop assistants that customers become irate.

    Unfortunately, modern society has not been productive when it comes to basic good attitudes or manners. In one way, you could blame things such as people becoming more and more time poor due to the fast pace of life we all live in.

    Customers also tend to use their full extent of rights as consumers, even without justification.

    I personally feel sorry for people working in the retail or hospitality industries because I cannot see the problems evaporating.

    and as somebody said, your boss wouldnt like you saying this because he just wants the customers money

    there is a truth behind this

    he relies on the customer to get money as the customers rely on your boss to get them products

    there is nothing you can do about it

    customers are going to d1cks whether you like it or not

    the most you can do is be as respectfull as you can and hope they are respectful back

  4. sorry bud!but with all the prices we have to pay out you should be happy we are only little trolls just ***** at someone so far...these are not easy times so get use to it..we all are suffering,your not alone.

  5. One shop's employee is other shop's customer....and this goes on. So your customers are actual employees somewhere and similarly you are a customer somewhere too......

    Basically its not customer's, its all of us.....I blame it on stress coming out of a materialistic and individualistic society where achieving material things is considered success.

  6. Well your manager won't support you these days. The main reason behind this is money. The snooty customer has money which the manager in turn wants. But there are nice people in this world. You just have to find them.
