Why are cyclists so arrogant?

Today I was driving home from work and the road I was on had 2 lanes going th same direction - 1 for bikes and the other for cars.

As I was about to drive in line with this cyclist he went to maneovre into my lane, I beeped my horn in anger, he had no reason to suddenly move over, his lane was completely clear for another mile. I looked in my mirror and he was waving his fists and shouting....I shouted back and pointed to his lane saying 'that is YOUR lane'

He pulled up next to me shouting and I shouted back saying why did you go try to get yourself killed, all he could say is that 'I'm always having cars drive in the bike lane' I said 'Well I didn't drive in your lane did I?' He didn't know what to say.

  1. Cyclists can be arrogant and dangerous, more so than the others on this forum like to admit. Just yesterday, while I was crossing the road with my children a pack of cyclists nearly ran into my 10 year old daughter.  There was plenty of room and time for us to cross, the lead biker actually whistled and sped up as we were crossing the road and the cyclists behind him spread out.  As they passed by us,  many yelled cuss words at my children and I.  I called the police and learned that these cyclist groups are very well organized and many incidents occur that are not the fault of motorists or pedestrians.

They act like a group of punk gang members trying to show their 'power' and intimidate others. People (cyclists) would like you to believe these are isolated incidents, they are not. My neighbors and others outside my immediate area are seeing the same behavior. As you read their group sites etc, you see a common theme. A group think mentality of entitlement... pervades many cyclists.  Motorists, pedestrians, and concerned citizens need speak up.  I encourage you to continue to speak up and take action.  I certainly will.
