Question:

Why are dill pickles always kosher?

Is there a reason?

Is it a marketing tactic (because kosher usually means better quality)? Or are pickles a stable part of a Jews diet?

  1. There are lots of dill pickles out there that aren't kosher.

  2. I have no idea why but it's almost silly because technically..all pickles are kosher!

  3. Like the first answer.... there are a lot of pickles not kosher, dill and otherwise.  Maybe a lot of them are actually kosher because of the relatively easy method it takes to make them.. and maybe they know a Rabi..??

  4. Not all dill pickles are kosher.  Most cases kosher pickles are very hard to find.  The regular pickles one find on the shelf are made the traditional way without kosher principles applied.

  5. Jewish people want their Kosher foods and I like Kosher pickles best.  I am not Jewish, but they have very high sanitary standards.  Why are you worried about it anyway?

  6. All pickles are NOT Kosher, LOL

Read more labels next time you go to the store!!

  7. For the most part, kosher means that it was produced under the supervision of a rabbi.  So that would mean that there was a rabbi at the factory, who can witness all parts of the production - the harvesting, the pickling, the canning - and can make sure that no ingredients enter the process that are forbidden by Jewish dietary law.

Another company could make the exact same pickles with the same process, but if there is no rabbi to supervise, they won't be kosher.

The reason why someone thought that "all pickles are kosher" is:

The first rule of kosher production - to never mix meat and dairy - is easy to follow with pickles, which should contain no meat or dairy!  But they still need to be certified by a rabbi to put "kosher" on the label.
