Why are dreams so distant from actual time?

Has anyone noticed how its hard to pinpoint when you dreamt something was, unless you tie it to an actual everyday memory. For example, if i dreamt about a shoe, and i remember the dream, it would be hard to tell when exactly i had this dream. unless, the next day after the dream i told someone about it, then i would be able to remember when i told someone, therefore when the dream happened

  1. They are not distant- in fact, they are very immediate, linked with our emotions and reactions all day, only to be 'played back' at night. We also dream much more than we recall, and only significant dreams are retained in memory past awakening.

Make notes of your dreams, as often as possible, to set up a reflex to further your recall. Very soon, you'll find your night-life accessible to recollection. Interpretation comes later.

  2. Yeah, that's why I try to write them down or tell people. Dreams are so weird, they supersede time and space. Sometimes they are serials and start right where they left off in another dream months ago without missing a beat.
