What does Zoloft do? Does it fix chemical imbalances?

Is it worth the suicide risk? Why is it prescribed?

Zoloft is prescribed for depression.  I have been on anti-depressants for 10 years now (since I was 18) and I have not had suicidal thoughts at all.  I wouldn't say it "fixes" chemical imbalances, but I would say it does help to correct them.  I personally have not taken Zoloft I take welbuterin (along with a couple others) but welbuterin is one that I like the most b/c I don't have so many of the side effects.  My son is also on a medication called Lamictal b/c he has Bi-polar 2 (the manic depressant) and he has NOT had ANY suicidal thoughts or I would pull him off (ween)in a heart beat!!  Hope this helps ")

         I would suggest taking the medication if you are feeling depressed b/c depression is obviously NOT fun and the benifits OUT WEIGH the side effects.  ")  ")
