I have had a couple dwarf hamsters in my childhood, and want another one. My past experiences have been okay; I think they are great pets. I just have one problem. The hamsters I have had, had been very angry. Every time I would go to pick him up.. chomp! He would try to bite you. I was wondering if anyone knew a way to make them more happy, or something that puts them in a better mood, and least likely to bite. I just want a playful one!

  1. I was holding a bunch of dwarfs thursday at the pet store and none if them bit me. Are you holding them right? Maybe you should hold them at the pet store before you get them and choose the ones that don't bite you. Dwarfs, unlike syrians, are less likely to tolerate handling, so if you want something you can hold then why not get a syrian hamster?

  2. it meens there not used to eing handled thats all its best to get them wen theve just left mum that way u can tame them and winter whites always nip anyway and roboviski alwas scits so u cant win not sure about chinease hamsters

  3. Usually its the smaller the hamster the nicer.

  4. Neuter him.

  5. that is a good question. I couldn't take mine out of the cage because it was IMPOSSIBLE to tame him. i tried for all FOUR years of his life and i got bitten everytime. maybe if you try to put something with ur scent into his cage. nothing huge that could get him suffocated or anything. like maybe part of an old sock or glove. just make sure he can't get stuck in it and u know, suffocate.
