I was in the pet store, I wanted to buy one but everyone I picked up, they made this angry face and would try to bite me, even the lady said that they are mean, and try to bite you at every chance they get (if I was her boss I would fire her so fast).

  1. I've only been nipped by one dwarf hamster, and I have about a dozen of them.  (Of course, I'm fostering a litter right now, so that's why. :P)  When they're handled regularly, they can be fairly nice.  My oldest boy is a SWEETHEART, never nipped, and likes to cuddle.

Dwarves aren't the best to handle, because they are so small and like to move so much. If you want a hamster you can cuddle, a Syrian is a better choice.

  2. I had a dwarf hamster! He bit me as well.

    I loved him anyway.

It was most likely a male, they are territorial and that's probably why they are "mean" and bite you.

    Hope this helped! :)

  3. wer the hammies sleeping?? if they wer u should nevr wake a slepping ham. it causes them to hav lots of stress and they are known to be nocturnal also they bite when they are waken?? not that its ur fault(i wuld fire her to) but how u like to be woken up in "the middle of the nite" and be held and hereing lots of noises and stuff.... just put yourself in the hamsters paws.. hope this helped (also, dwarf hamsters hate being held , their more 'run around " creatures than to cuddle

  4. This is the first time I am hearing about dwarf hamsters as "mean" :) I have always heard of them being cute and sweet only.

Any hamster would bite you first you touch them since you are completely new to them. They are guided by their smell and when you smell new to them, they would obviously think "danger" and bite to protect themselves. They are not being mean, just being naturally protective about themselves.

Some hamsters can be friendly to anybody if they have been handled by human hands since birth. However most hamsters bite and have to be tamed by the us after we bring them to our homes.

The quality of the pet shop can also be judged by the way they handle their hamsters. If the lady in the shop thinks they are mean and bitey, that shows that the pet shop is not professional and I feel sad for the plight of those little hamsters in her shop. They are being mean and bitey since they are handled by a person who does not know how to handle them.

You are right - if I were her boss, I would have fired her too fast!!!!

  5. When it's the first time they see you they think that your a stanger  and they bite you. They need to know you first.
