  1. Because they're harder and more expensive to make.

  2. Businesses do not sell products to help people, they sell them for profit.  Hybrids are more expensive to manufacture, and have a lower demand than non-hybrids so they cost more.  Why would anyone run a business if not for profit?

  3. bc to seel something cheap it has to be in mass prodice since most ppl dont even know about going green and global warming they keep buying the same products and with the economy going down and ppl want to save money they go for he cheapest stuff which isnt good for the earth. and if we keep buying the bad stuff the ppl who make it will get more money and will keep making it and the ppl who make green stuff have only have part of the costumers buying their stuff they will start raising their prices and make less and less stuff

it all has to do with the economy and ppl knowing about global warming and if they even care

  4. I don't know why people keep saying that hybrids are so expensive. It's true that you can't find a cheap used one, but if you were going to buy a new car they only cost a little more to begin with, but with gas savings you get that savings pretty quick.

I traded my Buick LaSabre in for a Prius 6 years ago. My Prius was cheaper than my Buick then I went from 19mpg to 45mpg, I can't calculate how much I've saved in 6 years on gas. I also only have to have the oil changed every 7500 miles instead of 3000, so agian savings. The Prius has small tires, so they were cheaper than tires for the Buick. I don't have to get a smog inspection every other year again savings. I Love my car so instead of my old habit of getting a new vehicle every 2-3 years I've owned my car for 6 and it's been paid off for more than a year, it has been more than 20 years since I haven't had a car payment.

Just like solar panels you need to look at the longterm benifit.

  5. They aren't helping everyone.  E85 gas is a joke, hybrid cars contain batteries that are very dangerous to out environment.  Electric cars will be a problem to if they go mainstream,  Think of a some hot afternoon/evening.  Every comes home about the same time from work, plugs there car in and has the A/C running.  Our infrastructure will probably not be able to take it.  Think of all the resources needed to build up the eclectic system in our country.

All this new new kind of goes against living green.  Recycling is better than buying new and reusing is better than recycling.

Cars can be made to get more than twice the mileage they currently get, this could cut down our need by huge amount and would be a good long term fix enabling real solutions to be found.  Not half *** take care of it for know and s***w tomorrow type fixes.

Allot can be done on a personal level.  Just by changing daily habits.

  6. 1) They are expensive because they cost a lot to make

    2) They are expensive because movie stars who want to look good in the eyes of their fans buy them

    3) They are not helping anyone. they still pollute. They still are made from plastic, lead, metal, paint and every other HUGELY energy hungry processes that completely belies their actual use as a net saver of energy. You are being duped by car companies who are exploiting you because you all believe that the sky is falling...

  7. Though eco cars have been around for a while, it's only in recent years that they're becoming accepted into the mainstream. It's the initial cost of integration and component technology that makes them expensive. If and when hybrids become more widespread, the costs too would come down.

  8. The question is a bit of a non sequitur.  Eco Cars are expensive because they are not mass produced.  Secondly, the batteries are still a very new technology, and with all new technology, they are expensive at first.

Eco products are not always more expensive.  For example, the Trellis Biodegradable plates.  If you buy their products in bulk, they tend to be cost competitive.  Also, most energystar products are cost competative as well.

It is true that there are some eco-products that may be more expensive, but overall, do some competitive shopping and you might be surprised.
