Why are electricty prices going up in Texas when we are 90% powered by Coal?

Also the vehicals that unearth the coal in the biggest mine in the US Fairfield, TX are running on electric power created with the coal. So again why did the rates double when oil went up?

  1. There are many complex answers to your question, because Texas deregulated the electric utility industry a few years back.  

    The the simple answer is like my dog.  

    Because they can.


  2. Because the price of coal has also doubled or tripled over the last few years.

  3. 1.  Coal is transported to power plants by diesel powered trains.

    2.  As the price of one fuel increases demand for alternate fuel increases allowing speculators to increase prices.
