  1. to reduce the pollution.

  2. To see if the vehicle (or whatever, since emission tests are done on other things than vehicles) complies with the minimum standards with regards to allowable emissions by law. If it doesn't, then it needs to have the proper work done to it so that it does or, if no amount of work will achieve this, then it needs to be scrapped. Either way, the emission tests will not only show whether or not it complies with emission laws but also how well it does or doesn't comply and in what ways.

  3. Our government does not like people who pass gas.

  4. sorry

  5. Today's environment is being polluted with a no. of lethal gases such as oxides of carbon, sulphur, nitrogen etc. Thus the cause needs to be discovered. One of it is the vehicles.

Thus to control problems like global warming, acid rain, ozone depletion etc such tests are done in order to check the vehicles and prevent the emission of harmful gases. Such tests are equally necessary for industries as well.

  6. to check whether it is farting.

  7. its just to see whether your vehicle is emitting only a small proportion of harmful gases into the atmosphere, and not pollute it to the maximum.......

  8. another government rip off.

  9. Emmision tests are done to save your life. While we exist in this world, several tests are conducted inorder to know if we  we are within an acceptable tolerances. If indeed we are within the acceptable tolerances, then our products, way of living and even our life as individuals continue to live on. Otherwise, our life would become miserable and  would end too short in this world.
