Question:

Why are enviromentalist (sp?) so worried when....(please read on)?

why do they worry that the water is going to flood the earth because the icecaps are going to melt due to extreme heat, when if the heat is so exreme, wouldnt it evaporate?

  1. Those places wont be as hot as (lets say) the US or the Caribbean and its because of that why it wont evaporate immediately. But it wont be cold enough to keep it 'frozen' either.


  2. With more evaporation there will be more clouds and more rain which will fall back to earth (see water cycle).

    Here is another take.  If all the ice melts, everyone who was displaced by rising sea level can move to Greenland and Antarctica, since there will be no ice left and the climate will be warmer.

  3. Water that evaporates turns into hurricanes and other torrential downpours and returns to earth. The air can only hold so much before it is saturated and it rains. If it rains and the ice caps are gone, the water levels all over the shorelines will rise, flooding all those places like Florida and the shores.

    That will also cause the winds and growing seasons to change too, which will make for new challenges in growing enough food for all people.

  4. I really shouldn't dignify this with an answer...but oh well, the water wouldn't evaporate, for that the temperature would need to be ALOT higher.
