Why are environmental groups hypocritical when it comes to the findings of the IPCC.?

When the IPCC reports that global warming is caused by humans they are quick to embrace the report. After all it is comprised of all of the "world's leading experts." But when the world's leading experts (ie the IPCC) say we have to adapt to nuclear technology to reduce co2 emissions, they are wrong. Is or isn't the IPCC the world's leading experts? And if you claim that alternative energy is feasible, what study do you base your findings on?

  1. It might help if you actually identified the "environmental group" you had in mind.  Do you have a link to a statement from a specific group, or do you stereotype all groups concerned about global warming into one mold?

In any case, there are many individuals and groups concerned about global warming who acknowledge the high quality of the IPCC reports that would also support nuclear technologies.  So your question, because it's too vague, has a false premise.

  2. Not all of us are hypocritical. You d**n the good with the evil.

  3. I would have to agree: ALL environmental groups are hypocritical.  In any argument it is easier to point to others and say “you are wrong”.  I have never seen an environmental group say “We (the inclusive group of people that are modern civilization—those environmental groups AND the rest of us that are deemed “not green” [even if we do attempt to recycle, reduce consumption stc. In our own way])—“We need to change and THIS is how we do it…”  I would like to see the groups invest their own $$ to create and implement the chances they say others should be doing.  If (for example) bio-fuels are the wave of the future, all the enviro groups should pool their cash and go into business making the stuff.  Wouldn’t that solve the problem?

  4. The IPCC is a panel solely dedicated to climate change. There is no doubt that, strictly from a climate change perspective, nuclear power would be a great thing.  But nuclear power has its own set of environmental problems, which do not fall under the purview of the IPCC.
