I suppose it is a general stereotype, encouraged and misused by the media.

Living in Suffolk (which is adjacent to Essex) I have worked with lots of Essex girls, and have found them to be no more loose or stupid than any other girls.

Only complaint we have about Essex people is they all talk with a fake cockney accent - we call them 'plastic Cockneys'!
