Why are false teeth not made out of stainless steel?

For the molars it would be OK as they can not be seen. A set of steel molars could be fixed with screws into the bone so they could be standard sizes and cheap and easy to replace if needed

  1. cos you would look a c**t thats why

  2. Strangely, most people seem to prefer white ones.

  3. do you have any fillings in your mouth? Have you ever put a spoon in your mouth and felt the chemical reaction? If so you'd know its not very comfortable. Plus when I open my mouth, I can see my molars, so I'd want tooth colored teeth anyway.

    good question though.

  4. o ? Have you ever put a spoon in your mouth and felt the chemical reaction? If so you'd know its not very comfortable

  5. you would need to clean them whith steel wool

  6. Aside from the fact that steel is heavier than porcelain; even 'stainless' steel is not truly stainless.  Actually it would look pretty cool; but in time it develops a greyish veneer and starts pitting, which is not nearly as attractive.  Mostly, though, I think people prefer false teeth that actually look like teeth.

  7. 1. jaw ache from carrying around something so heavy

    2. pure, absolutely pure, pain when hot or cold reverberates to bone

    3. the nasty feeling of metal on metal when chewing (kind of like chewing a piece of tin foil with metal crowns on your molars)

  8. Actually in a way your answer is they already do but not of stainless steel but other metals. I have dental implants and my lower teeth are titanium with acrylic over it. My uppers are gold with porcelain over that. The screws to the bone would be dental implants which are made of titanium that bonds so strongly to the bone that it becomes part of the bone.

However this is NOT cheap nor is it easy as it takes someone with great skill.
