Why are fast food companies getting so competetive?

Everytime I see a commercial for fast food there always talking about how there food is better. Now they are stealing eachothers menu items, first mcdonalds made the snack wrap then burger made there thing, then Jack in the box made a sirloin burrito, then kfc, now I see wendys making a snack wrap also.

Is there a shortage of beef or somthing because they are really trying to close the other companies down?

Everyone sells a chicken sandwich. Its easy to cut up and make a wrap. All of them are looking for add on items, items you can get in addition to your regular combo.

Its not that there competitive, there is just only so many tasteless, cheap items you can sell!

no they're are not. every fast food restaurants knows they have mostly the same thongs. they sharing.so if your not close to McDonald's got to Wendy's that's what they are doing they aren't bagging on each other

They are just like any other business.  With more units opening up they have to be more competitive.  Consumers have a huge choice about where to spend their money and the fast food restaurants want your money so they will compete like any other industry.  I think the danger though is that they dilute their core brand and core product which only hurts them in the long run.  But businesses must grow, must expand, must keep consumers and they are fighting like everyone else in a tough economy.  Their costs are rising but they have to keep prices affordable to keep customers, so shaking up the menu is another way to lure more customers.

The market has a finite size. In order to grow you need to steal the other guys business. If tweaking the menu gets someone to visit your restaurant and spend money then they are the winner....for that day anyway
