  1. Because men would rather scoop their eyes out with a rusty spoon than go to a women's event anyway

  2. I think they are sexist...but in a way that empowers females where they had previously been oppressed.   A good follow up question to yours might be "Is ALL sexism harmful?"

If you don't like them, you can:

    1. choose not to participate

    2. stage a legal, peaceful protest

    3. badmouth them every chance you get

    4. ignore them completely

I take freedom of expression very seriously.  You have the right to object to these events, but not the right to stop them from happening.

I agree with the poster who said that sometimes you just want to hang out with members of the same s*x.  Church groups offer all female or all male retreats on a regular basis.   Is that wrong?

"Take back the night" was launched to raise awareness of violence against women...it was a sort of protest that evolved into an all-girl party.

  3. Female only events...as in?

  4. Since these types of events generally do not exclude the male from attending, I don’t see how they can be classed as sexist. They exit because it’s a way to cater for a minority. I’m not saying that females are necessarily a minority, but we still live in a world where the male of the species is the dominant force and everything is aimed towards them.

It’s the same reason why Universities host groups for specific cultures/races or for g**s & lesbians. It’s a way to provide information for a faction that feel largely ignored by mass society.

  5. Who cares.  I could not stand to be around that many women

  6. Personally I think that it isn't fair.

I think that everybody and everyone should be subjected to the same rules regardless of race and gender.

If women can have it so can men.

If blacks can have it so can whites.

  7. Hmm, can't answer cause I sometimes do feel they are sexist. Like, I think it's a bit strange how you can have women's only night at swimming baths, but there isn't a men's only night? Mind you, it wouldn't bother me if there was a men's only night, no skin off my nose. But, think about it this way, a lot of sports are still male only, like football (soccer), but no one really considers it sexist that only men play, and that women may only play in the sub-category of women's football...I don't know, perhaps it doesn't seem like a big deal as most men aren't bothered about it, like I wouldn't really be bothered if there was a men's only gym or swimming night. Hope I provided you with something useful :)

  8. Because that is the way of the world.

  9. Because of a double standard.  Sad, I know - but I believe it to be true.  That, and the fact that most of these events don't appeal - in the least - to men, so you don't hear them complaining about it.

So many of the clubs/events that women complain about being exclusively male hold no interest for women - they are simply rallying against them out of principle...

  10. Because they are L*****n events, and lesbians can't be sexist.

    Love Jack

  11. Because women are perfect and therefore we can't be sexist.

    : P

In truth, I don't know. I see nothing wrong with female-only events, and I see nothing wrong with male-only events. It bugs the c**p out of me when some stupid pushy fembot insists on invading male-only events or places with her cries of "discrimination! sexism! haaaaaaaaate!". Why can't they just be content to let men have their guy stuff? It's so very obnoxious.

  12. Because females are generally not as strong as men and they want a level playing field.

  13. if there are any such they should be considered sexist with the exception of sports which obviously will not be fair to women

  14. Same as Black magazines are not considered racist

  15. double standards

  16. I don't really think they should be but neither do I think all male events should.  There are times when people only want the company of their own gender.  Political correctness really gets up my nose.

  17. Do you mean like a ladies night at a pub? that sort of thing? it might say ladies only but theres nothing legal that means men cant go. and if a man turns up, the place cant kick you out. its more like 'women will enjoy it more but its your choice'

  18. does it matter?

  19. Obviously they are or you wouldn't have asked.

  20. The same reason that black only events are not considered racist.  It appears that it is impossible for you to discriminate if you or your ancestors were historically subject to discrimination.
