Question:

Why are feminists conservative?

I find it ironic that feminists are usually liberals who believe in saving the earth and all this other smart stuff, yet also are fans of Texas justice, gun rights, and hold militant views.

Are there any peaceful feminists?

  1. You're citing a stereotype.  I, for example, am NOT a liberal and tend to lean more Republican *gasp!*  And I know some like me.

People are individuals with individual views-- stereotypes usually don't get it right.

  2. WHERE? I have yet to meet a feminist who believes in any of that.

  3. Feminists want to gain their own rights while caring about the world around them. They can be democrats but still want to do the same things as men. Yes there are peaceful feminists because every women is entitled to their own opinion just like men. So in the end we're all people with different opinions. But maybe you're stereotyping feminists a little bit. Give me an example of a feminist who is like that.

  4. *Shrugs* There's a lot of diversity in the feminist population.

I don't think many feminists are, strictly speaking 'conservative', although most are fairly middle of the road.

Who knows why people hold the views they do, it's pointless speculating ~ there are too many different people involved to have just one single answer.

    Cheers :-)

  5. I have never met a conservative feminist. That's one thing I like about feminist, that they are not conservative.

  6. Why do avatars of people with dark hair, and whom often wear sunglasses and headphones believe in saving the earth and all this other smart stuff, yet also are fans of Texas justice, gun rights, and hold militant views.

Are there any peaceful people whose avatar is dressed in this manner?

See where I'm going with this?

Feminists are not a homogenous group. Case in point - You identify as a feminist, but I expect that you and I (whilst we both identify as feminists) are probably fairly different. Different lives, different perspectives on many things.

You will probably continue to find contradictions and the like, until you realise that we are all different :-)

  7. you sound you view every different individual as a feminist

  8. I am a feminist and a pacifist.  I do not support war or the use of guns in any way whatsoever.

  9. I'm not sure how widespread this is. Certainly some feminists are, but it seems a stretch to imply that all are.

As for why they are, I can't be sure, but I would wager past oppression by males and the fact that women are physically weaker than men likely plays a role. These feminists likely see gun ownership as a means for self-defense against stronger men. A sort of equalizer if you will.

  10. I haven't met a feminist that believes in that either.

  11. thats a little far fetched, don't you think?

Thats an opinion and you're making it a stereotype.

I'm sorry, but this is a really stupid question.

  12. what the h**l?? buddy do you know what a feminist even is??

  13. I'm a peaceful feminist.

  14. Dude, you have a p***s, why would you be a feminist?

  15. I'm thanking that the word "feminist" has lost it's original meaning

  16. so you cant be peaceful and believe in the constitution?

  17. I'm liberal feminist and have environmentalist ideals.

I hate guns, and I don't know exactly what you mean by 'Texas justice'  but it doesn't sound good to me.  I'm against the death penalty and I think guns should be illegal.

When you talk of 'peaceful feminists'  I think immediately of the Greenham Common women, who protested against US nuclear weapons in the UK.  And there are dozens of other groups like that.

I don't think most feminists are conservative.  There may be some, but in global terms I don't think they're representative of the movement as a whole.
