Question:

Why are feminists so CARE FREE when MEN are sexist against other MEN?

I posted a question a while back about how men are portrayed as MORONS on TV sitcoms.

The responses I got from feminists are basically this:

"Men are the ones who write most of those shows, so its not really the fault of women that men are being portrayed that way."

SO.. let me get this straight:

-Sexism against women from men = Big Problem

-Sexism against women from women = Big Problem

-Sexism against men from women = Mild problem

-Sexism against men from men = WHO CARES?

If feminists are truely about equality, they would fight ALL sexism from ALL sources. But it seems that "Man on Man" sexism is something to be ignored. Just like violence is only a big issue when a woman is involved.

Is this YET MORE feminism hypocrisy? (why can't I run out of examples?)

Opinions please...

  1. I'm not! I happen to think sexism of all kinds is ridiculous. Our culture has put all of us in little boxes that some of us have ventured to breach. It is getting easier to breach as more people strive to get out of our little box. I think that not only are men made to look like morons on television sitcoms but most of humanity. Sitcoms are a generalization of human behavior-that is all. Hopefully we all don't have a tendency to believe or react like fictional characters on television.

  2. What the person said is true, if one gender is writing the show and acting it then they are only being sexist to themselves so it's their problem.

But interestingly enough I ALSO posted a question a while back about a movie 'my super exa girlfriend' that was sexist because she can hit himn, throw objects at him and threaten to kill him, but if that was superman doing that...

Howeber from the MALE respinses, they all wrote stuff like 'who cares?'

  3. Some people are really annoying... Anyways... Without specific examples of what you're referring to or a link to the original question this can be  difficult to answer.  I would say that sexism against men by men are wrong but I think that the MRA could handle it; right?  I would gladly help them out but I am not sure if showing a man as a MORON is considered sexism after all women are also portrayed occassionaly as MORON's and some men and women really are MORON's!  Should moron's not be portrayed in media and if they were not protrayed in media wouldn't that be harrassment of morons not being fairly represented?

  4. So what feminist organization would you want to take on this fight? And how would you propose they wage this war against sexism of men against men? What would you propose their basis for fighting sexism against men be? And how will YOU play your part to assist them in their fight?

Just a hint, violence against anyone is wrong, no matter who's the victim.

  5. There are many types of feminists. Sexism against anyone is unacceptable. In regards to that quote, the viewers who watch that type of programming are the ones to blame be they male or female. Most feminists are not man haters. Gener role stereotyping in sitcoms is fairly common. It is applied to men and women. Maybe the people who answered the question are not truly feminists.

Edit: Many people who are feminists fight for all types of causes. I know male and female feminists. But basically, enviromentalists fight for the enviroment, animal rights activists fight for animal rights, members of the NRA fight for their right to bear arms...get the pattern? Femminists strive for the rights of women.

  6. I'm a woman who has worked in engineering and construction for decades. All my kids are male. I don't consider myself a radical feminist because most of what I hear from that camp is downright dysfunctional in my own work.

I have wondered when guys are going to start acting on stuff like this. I sure have heard complaints, but it always seems to fizzle out in a single venting. Not just guy on guy. There are ALOT of social injustices that men suffer. As a woman who admires and loves many men, I still don't feel like I have any right to pick their battles, much less fight them for them.

I am, however, in total agreement with this and WAY more. You do the do, my friend. Let me know how I can help. I have no intention of setting your priorities, though.

  7. I think many of the problems with feminism come from the fact that it kind of grew out of its frame: originally it was meant to allow for women not to be treated as second category citizens and to give us right to vote etc. Somewhere along the lines the questioning of how gender is structured, and battles against sexism and gender inequalities started. Somehow those issues are still stuck to the field of feminism, even when they address issues not exclusive to women. But those things cannot really go together: either we fight inequality and try to figure out what can be done better, or we focus on  representing the interests of one political group against another (women versus men).

I suggest creating gender-equality- working groups where every member is invisible and where the s*x of any of the participants is not known. Every person would try to imagine that they act from the position of another gender and would try to represent the other genders interests. So straight men would try to take a temporary L*****n identity, g*y men would temporarily try to  take on the identity of women expecting babies, straight women would try to think themselves into male bisexuals etc.etc.etc

Given that every gender has encoded terrible cliches about each other  that could lead to an interesting mish mash and and total chaos lol

  8. I am not going to feel sorry for those who have been the power elite for at least two millenia now.  If they are getting taken down a peg or two on TV sitcoms, GOOD FOR THEM!

Besides, who takes TV sitcoms seriously anyway?  Has a TV sitcom ever caused a man to lose a job? Caused them to be discriminated against on a wide spread basis? Hardly.

You, sir, are making an argument where one doesn't exist. Find something better to do, please.

  9. That quote doesn't indicate that it's less important. They were just pointing out that the blame was misplaced.

  10. excellent point
