  1. because, they dont sell much on mondays.

  2. I think this is because they like to have long weekends, and so they want to have a three day weekend! xo

  3. Originally from the lack of fresh catch (fish) from Sundays.

  4. The first poster was right; because they're open Friday, Saturday and Sunday to take advantage of weekend business, they close Monday to rest, restock and get ready for the upcoming week.

  5. because they have to fish....

  6. I think it is because many get fresh fish and the fishermen don't go outon Sundays.

I canremember that year ago, but few here do not open now.

  7. It's always when I feel like fish and chips too!

But I suppose that the people working in the fish and chip shops have worked extra hard on Friday nights and Saturday's and Sunday's too.

They deserve a break. Work on their cooking skills. : )

  8. that should be considered a crime.

  9. i think its in jewish religion not to sell fish on mondays, or something like this.

  10. Because the British are very lazy*, and people who work on Saturdays think they should get a day off to make up for that; so instead of hiring enough people to fully staff a shop all week, businesses close on Mondays.  And sometimes on Wednesday afternoons, too!

*Before anyone gets all mad at my (obviously rather sweeping) stereotyping of Britain, how else does one explain the higher standard of living in the US and Australia?
