Why are fishing lights illegal?

I heard somewhere that the use of fishing lights are illegal in some states but in others they aren't. What is the reasoning for these laws, and does anyone know what kind of penalties are handed out for something like this? Thanks

  1. Like others, I don't know of any state where it's illegal, however if there is, I'll stand corrected. Lights are attractants and I've used them many a' times at night, fishin' Crappie;)... < ' ( (( > <

  2. I have never heard of lights being illegal.

If fishing under lights is illegal, there are thousands of criminals on docks and jetties all over the country.  Let's round 'em up!  They shouldn't be hard to find; those generators make a lot of noise...

I wonder why the Game Warden didn't lock us all up last summer on the jetty at Surfside Beach?

  3. Never heard of illegal lights.

  4. i think your actually thinking of the lure that has a LED light in it that makes it look like the lure is bleeding.   its called a "bite light".

but the reason they would put that law on regular lights is because lights shining in the water brings bugs and things which bring batifish which bring the game fish that  you want.  it starts a feeding frenzy.   which makes the fish clustered and over aggressive.

  5. because fish are attracted to light. it is considered poaching.

you could serve up to a year in jail.

  6. I fish saltwater where its illegal NOT to have lights

  7. Never heard of lights being illegal.
