Why are fundies so desperate to believe that atheists are unhappy and live troubled lives ?

Fundies are not desperate to believe anything. They just believe that you would be happier with God in your life. They have that right, the same as you have the right to laugh in their faces and call them desperate. If a so-called "fundie" wants to pray for you, what harm will that do to you?

actually, I'm not. i really hope that everyone is having a great time in life.

im in the military, i come across a lot of people with all kinds of personalities. I've come across some real nice atheist and mean Christians and vise versa. that's just life.

Your life is miserable until you buy our product, then - Swish! - suddenly your life is better.

I've listened to plenty of born-again Christians who talk the same way; their life was a misery until they met Jesus, then things got better.

So by their reckoning anyone who hasn't met Jesus (on their terms) must have a miserable life.

Btw most atheists I've met have been happy and comfortable with their world view, and those that weren't certainly wouldn't put down their discomfort to a lack of belief in Jesus.

The two quotes are possible answers - some people like to confuse things so that their lies appear true and others would rather believe  convenient lie then an inconvenient truth, Hitler's propaganda minister expresses what many lying believers do when they repeat lies. I wouldn't be surprised if some haven't met atheists or think that all atheists aren't happy as many claim that all atheists seek god.

They want to believe this because their cult tells them that the only way anyone can feel love or happiness is if they join the cult.

They must always have that nagging envious feeling in the back of their minds, given Atheists are free form thinkers and conversely any religious beliefs are contrived. Every single person recognises their own personality exists so religious people must be blocking or controlling it in order to submit to an unproven character.

It's great to be psychologically free so of course they are jealous.

I don't know, Ra I think that fellow was sincere. I have no doubt there are lonely atheists, but the fundies mistake us for nihilists all of the time, they assume that without belief in god that there is nothing worth believing in.

I'm one of those "fundies."  The vast majority of other "fundies" I know don't believe at all that "atheists are unhappy and live troubled lives".  Any of them that do haven't read the Psalms.

Some are, because it reinforces their belief they are standing on the good ground.

But let's not turn this into a duty for all atheists to have happy shining testimonials of love and success.

I've struggled with depression since I was sixteen, and I'm now fifty-two.

About half the time I was Christian, half atheist.  It didn't make a major difference.  

Except that the Christians were on the whole, less understanding.  With a couple of great exceptions.

Three years ago we found out the key underlying problem.  And it had nothing to do with Christianity or atheism.  I'm a lot better now.  And I'm still  an atheist.
