Why are gas prices so low in Puerto Rico?

If Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, why are gas prices so low there? Currently $1.74.

  2. Because they sell it by liters, not by gallons.

  3. Where are you getting these prices from?? Gas is not 47 cents per litre right now or $1.74 per gallon. Its about 90 something cents per litre which is almost equal to the gallon prices in the states. Everything here is priced in comparison to the US.  PR was going to get cheap gas from Venezuela but the US govt said no.

  4. 1 Gallon = 3.79 Liters

    Gas in PR is 95cents/Liter

    3.79 x 0.95 = $3.6/gallon

    It is relatively cheaper (like a dollar),

    I always thought it was because PR has good relations with venezuela and brazil.

  5. Dont get confused.  They price it by the liter.  In the US it is by the gallon.   You'll have to multiply the price times 4 to compare.

    4 liters = 1 gallon.
