I would think they would be happy, they are retired, no job stress, no responsibility. But I talk to them and they are always angry about something. Why?

  1. they can't believe how stupid young people are.

  2. I take care of an 88 yr old woman.  She hates being old.  She hates old people.  She'll stand in front of the mirror and say,  "look at that old woman in there,  I never thought I'd look like that. " She's angry because her body no longer allows her to be as active as she once was.  She's angry because she has out lived her husband most of her family and all of her friends.  She's angry because everything hurts.  She's angry about being angry all the time.  I think what she is really feeling is fear but it manifests as anger.

  3. They're angry because they're incapable of doing most things in life, that's why idiot!

  4. You make it sound like it's a cakewalk, it's not. It's hard getting old.

Your body is giving out, your mind is foggy most of the time. You have to take medication to do everything. You don't know if you are going to wake up the next morning. The entire world has changed and you didn't want it to. Your friends and relatives are all dying.

Believe me, that is not a fun existence, so cut them a little slack.

  5. They are angry because younger people like you do not take any time to understand and value them.  Besides, they've earned the right to be angry and SAY they're angry!

  6. Elderly people are the same as people in every other age group - there's some good, some bad.

  7. There are many possible reasons for the anger you sense.  Many of the elderly have been abandoned by their families. Many have seen the alarming erosion of common decency in our society, the loss of common sense and the greed and avarice of government and corporations.  They work all of their lives in hopes of being able to afford a comfortable retirement and instead find that some creeps have stolen all of their pensions as they siphoned it off into their own pockets.  Or, they can no longer afford to keep the home they worked so hard for because of insane insurance and tax rates.

The elderly have good reason to feel angry.  We should ALL be angry at the incompetance of our leaders and ban together to DEMAND REFORM!!!!!!!!!!

Then, some elderly are angry because they see their health declining, losing memory, fragile bones. Some of these health issues have NO CURE and must be "lived with".

I could go on and on.

  8. I would be angry too if someone else had to help me do the simplest things in life like taking a shower???  Would you like asking for help to do that and then having to wait for someone and that is just one little thing that we take for granted everyday until we get too that age and you will probably be angry as well...think about it

If you are talking slightly younger I would say it's mainly our demise of general courtesy in society as they would have grown up knowing everyone and helping out the neighbour etc....look at your community now do you even know your neighbour? Would you consider offering help or turn a blind eye?  Everyone is out for themselves these days and don't seem to care who they step on to get it...that even makes me angry

  9. They're angry and you wonder why? People push them to the fringes of society because they are no longer deemed useful. Their bodies are growing older, they have pains.

Then there is the added bonus of having your friends dying around you and wondering when you are going to be next. It's hard to watch people you've known forever, people you've raised your kids with die.

People spend their entire lives working and then suddenly they don't have to anymore. Often their vision is failing, they become forgetful, they aren't able to drive anymore. They can't get out easily to socialize anymore, and people don't visit them as often. When for so long your life has been about other people, it's hard to adjust.
