Why are green leafy vegetables considered rich source of iron while chlorophyll structure dos,nt contain iron?

  1. There is more to plants than chlorophyll, their iron comes from enzymes where it acts as a cofactor necessary for them to function. .

    As part of enzymes iron is needed for both photosynthesis and transpiration. Also for the electron transport chain.


  2. Spinach is high in iron. Although chlorophyll does have iron in it, the formation of chlorophyll requires iron. Iron deficiency causes yellowing in young leaves.

    Spinach also contains high level of oxalic acid, which affects iron absorption. So spinach is not a good source of iron for humans.

  3. vegetables contain a lot more than chlorophil.....
