Why are greenscreens most commonly used for television and blue screens most commonly used for feature films?

  1. Basically, it's a question of chroma keying and the difference between film (movies) and digital video (television).

    To quote from the article at the link:

    "Blue was originally used in film because it is the one color that does not appear in skin tones; skin tones are made up of red and green. In film the blue layer of the film (as in Super16 and 35mm film) is the sharpest, however it is also the grainiest, with DV on the other hand the blue channel is the grainiest, or noisiest."

    While green and blue are the common screens colours, they are not the only ones. It comes down to what colours the director wants to have show up and which can be hidden.

    and thay add all kind of  effects and stuff that you cant get in real life like the jump in the dukes of hazzerd move thay used a green screen for

    the blue screens work best with the weather reports
