Why are hardly any successful and profitable female musical acts unattractive?

With so much competition in the music business, I guess they can be choosy and pick the girls who will look hottest on the album cover. If you've got several girls with approximately the same voice, style, and talent, you're going to pick the prettiest one.

This reminds me of the Friends episode when Phoebe made the "Smelly Cat" video. They used her in the video but dubbed in the beautiful voice of an unattractive girl.
