I called some pet stores in Douglasville, and they told me that it's illegal to sell. Does anyone know why?

  1. They are considered wild animals.  You need to have a permit to keep them.

  2. They are such cute little guys but as someone said they are considered wild animals and apermit is required to have them.   Two main reasons for that is toprotect the hedgehogs from people who get one and consider it a sort of disposible pet as some do mice etc and/ordo not know how to take care of it and also because not enough is known about their health situation, what they can catch, what diseases they may carry, what a person or other pet could catch from them.  One biggie is that they are warmblooded and there is no known rabbies shot for then and the incubation period for rabies in a hedgehog is not known.
