does the government teach us to hate people who dont contribute to there profits?

maybe people feel this way due to the media

is it just arrogence that causes people to think and behave the way they do toward the homeless?

why do we get this feeling in the pit of our stomachs when we see a homeless person walking down the street like (oh heres another one of these lemme hide my wallet) or something to that affect

at the end of they day they are people to but they get treated like animals

doesnt anybody ever think how they would feel in there situation

not all homeless people deserve to be homeless some of them were hard workers who may have lost there jobs or buisinesses or something

why arent people more considerate

  1. you covered it. they judge. it's media also and arrogance. Little story: when i was growing up I use to see a homeless person on TV and my thought was "lazy bum..get a job".. (I was much, much younger). last year, I became homeless.. do you know I became one of those of bums i use to talk about. I didn't become homeless because I was a substance abuser or because I chose to be.. I had NO choice. Most people do NOT realize that they are just 1 illness or 1 tragedy away from homelessness themselves.. everybody says "it won't happen to me".. that's what I thought"..I talked to many homeless people when I was homeless and they are really sweet and they were there because they lost their jobs, or medical bills wiped them out. I didn't see 1 drunk person. though I am sure there are some. People say "don't give money..they will waste it..fine..just give us food.. we are happy with that.. give them things like gloves, hats, socks....

The media has portrayed homeless as bad. they have feelings like anyone else. they hurt, cry, feel pain, hunger, etc.  Some people have no compassion and I believe in Karma..if you know what i mean

  2. Hello,

Maybe we see a bit of ourselves in these people and want to stick our head in the sand. You can be an up and coming YUPI professional, get laid off in a downsizing. Many are 3 or 4 pay checks away from poverty. That's just the beginning and besides losing everything material to nasty creditors, as they say, when the wolves come to the door, the love flies out the window!

Take a moment to talk to some of these people; by their diction quite often, you can see they were someone higher on the social pyramid at one time.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  3. They aren't hated. That is your perception. Look at all of the agencies and companies who devote time and resources to helping our homeless. However, we do hate the bum who comes up to us to ask for a dollar or two to buy the brown paper bag. Unfortunately, that is mostly what I have experienced.

  4. this is a cruel world

  5. I don't... I feel bad for them. Emily Procter, Calleigh on CSI: Miami, is my aunt. She works at the soup kitchen like once every 2 months. She dragged be there once because I was mad at my parents for not getting me a 6,000$ bag from Burberry. I met some really sweet people. They are really, very, grateful. Emily made me realize there are far more worse things that people have to deal with out there.

  6. I feel because alot of the homeless can't be trusted. They have a rep.of turning to drugs and alcohol that effect the way they act.  Lots of them are beggers on the street.  I am a very nice gal, but when I see a homeless person, I will walk across the street or hold my purse a little tighter. So many of them are strung out on drugs and will do anything for money to buy more drugs or alcholol and that includes robbing someone or hitting them etc.  Hey, that homeless guy or gal may be the nicest person you could ever meet, but I'm not willing to find that out.  :)

  7. Because America's known for high class stuff. It's stupid I know, America likes to brag about things. America is supposed to be a place where ppl go for better life, but there's a lot of things people haven't seen out there. Not just in other countires, but in America too. Sometimes homeless adults here are achoholics, drug addicts, etc.. just wanting to ask for money so they can buy more dope. That's why whenever I see one, I just give them food, instead of money. That's why ppl here look at  homeless people like dirty rats, because not everyone was raised like a homeless person. But yeah, I do too wish ppl were more considerate.

  8. Most people assume that they are all alcoholics and drug addicts, or severely mentally ill.

I know that many are, and perhaps most are, but it is important to give people the benefit of the doubt.

  9. Because all americans are brought up to believe that with hard work you can become a succes.

The reality is that having rich parents helps, as does being mentaly healthy. Most homeless people should be in an institution or hospital, nor on the streets. But you know how it goes, budget cuts...

  10. Most people think that it was their choice to put themselves in that position. We shouldn't give them anything, they don't deserve it. They are just arrogant people. I think we should learn to be more compassionate and understanding towards those who are down and out.

  11. We hate them because we are deeply afraid or even know that it could be us on the street.  The majority of Americans are only 1 emergency, 1 injury, 1 mistake, from being on the street themselves.  That scares the c**p out of most people.

There is a saying that you can only hate those things that are a part of yourself because you cant hate something you dont know.

Also, because they dont understand homelessness.  Many homeless people have mental diseases, and mental diseases have a very long history of being discriminated against primarily because it is hard to understand.  By human nature, we fear what we dont understand, what we dont know.
