Why are homes for rent in Vermont so expensive?

My husband and I are pondering a move from NC to Vermont. Homes in NC are around 900 for a 4 bedroom where I'm from, but in Vermont they are 1800-2500 per month. Why is it so expensive there?

  1. It gets worse in Manhatton, NYC.   If everyone wants to live in Vermont, they will have to pay a premium.  Luckily, you are free to say No Thanks.

  2. Rent prices are high all over.  Here in the midwest a nice, 4 bedroom home would easily rent for $2,500 a month.  I lease out 3 bedroom homes, and the rent starts at $1,150.

  3. Different parts of the country will have varying costs.  Check out Los Angeles and see what renting a 4 bedroom house will go for out there.  I think one of the reasons Vermont is more expensive because it is a popular place for folks to vacation (both summer and winter) and to move to for the peace and beauty of the state.

With you being in NC, you should know that you are probably in one of the less expensive areas to live in so if you move, you will most likely find everything more expensive than what you are paying now.  Electric, cable, and heating costs will probably be higher as well.  You should consider this before committing to a move.

    Good luck.
