Why are hourly employees forced to take lunch, but salaried employees aren't?

  1. It's a labor law requirement.  Salaried employees are exempt from those labor laws.


  2. Because you are required to work 8 hours a day.  If you do not take lunch that is an additional hour they have to pay you and if they don't they can be in serious trouble and might be foreced to back pay.  Salaried employees have to work different hours, longer hours and if they do take lunch or do not take lunch, they are paid the same.  Usually if the abuse long lunches, they are called out on it.  Also, they are expected to stay longer hours for additinal projects.
