Why are houses in tacoma, WA not made of bricks?

We're planning to move to Washington and buy our house there but I can't seem to find a brick home with a basement.

I'm curious why the house must be brick sided?  That seems like an odd requirement when shopping for a home.  A basement I can understand though.  Location, floorplan, price, and condition are usually the important factors people consider when buying a home, not what type of siding it has.  If it's just a preference and you're not having much luck finding brick homes there, you might have to be a little less picky on the siding choice.
