Why are houses off the highway built at an angle, instead of face front to the road?

I see many home that are at built at a slight angle from the main road instead of facing straight, facing the road. why is this

to diffuse sound waves coming from the traffic on the highway. same reason they build walls between the road and the neighborhoods...sound buffer
