Why are hydrocarbons non-polar?

This is a question on my Biology homework and I cant find the answer. Does anyone know? 10 points to the first correct reply.

  1. The bond character between hydrocarbon atoms is entirely non-polar, in that the distribution of electrons between the two elements is somewhat even due to the same electronegativity values of the elements. Also it does not result in the formation of an electrophile.
