Those who enter legally under immigration visas are not so much a problem.  It is not immigrants but immigration-law violators who pose such serious costs and other consequences for the citizens of the countries whose laws they violate.

Think of it this way. You own a football stadium. It holds 250,000 people. You sell 250,00 tickets. You let 250,000 people in to see the game. 12 million nonpaying a******s slither in by illegal means, trash your stadium, protest on the field that they want better seats, etc. All this and then they claim they are helping you because more people are cheering your team on!

In fact, they are not at all "bad for the U.S. economy"; the fact that this canard persists is due to the economic ignorance of Americans in general and the fact that our press is obsessed mostly with stuff that's irrelevant (except to leftists) and can't be bothered to do a little simple education on the subject.

Not to mention, of course, that our educational system is anything but educational so no one is going to learn a little simple economics in school unless they're studying the subject for real. Economists KNOW that immigrants, legal and illegal, are not "bad for the U.S. economy"; do a bit of searching and you'll find them practically unanimous on this subject.

And let's not forget that when folks are feeling down economically they ALWAYS look for a bad guy to blame; this time around it's immigrants, illegal immigrants, and Bush, in that order. So what's new with that? Nothing.

First it was the Irish in the mid-1800s, then the Chinese from 1870 to 1910, followed by the Italians from 1910 to 1925. This time around it's principally the Mexicans. I wonder who it will be next time.

The ignorance on this subject would be funny if it weren't so sad and, potentially, destructive.

Study: Loss of illegal immigrants would cripple economy

chron.com: Eliminating illegal immigrants would cripple the national economy, according to a study backed by Houston business leaders.

Kicking the 8.1 million undocumented immigrants who work as bus boys, landscapers and other jobs out of the country would cost nearly $1.8 trillion in annual spending, the study by the Perryman Group said.

Texas would be the second-hardest hit state after California if the state's 1.2 million undocumented workers disappeared, the study said, removing $220.7 billion in spending within the Lone Star State.

The study was released Monday by the Americans for Immigration Reform, a group spearheaded by the Greater Houston Partnership.

The group hopes to convince politicians and the public that the nation's immigration laws must be changed. It plans to raise $12 million by December to campaign for immigration reform and so far has raised about 10 percent of that goal in pledges.

Local business leaders want an immigration reform plan that would give employers a way to hire immigrants legally.

"We need comprehensive reform that looks at our needs and addresses those needs," said Ray Perryman, president of Waco-based Perryman Group.

Perryman said that many with the nation's baby boomers retiring and a low unemployment rate, undocumented immigrants perform the jobs other American workers could not.

Although Congress has not passed an immigration reform bill, Americans continue to debate the issue.

Groups like the Washington, D.C.-based Federation for American Immigration Reform support restricting immigration and disagree with the argument that Americans won't do the jobs immigrants do.

"In many cases, there were people doing the jobs before the illegal immigrants showed up," said Ira Mehlman, national media director for the federation. "In many cases, these are just subsidized jobs because the employer can get away with whatever he's paying."

A 2007 report by that organization indicate said the costs of education health care and incarceration of undocumented immigrants in six states including Texas exceeds $27 billion annually.

Immigrants are not bad for the economy unless they are moochers. Illegals on the other hand are. Its not what they give (some give a lot) but for most its what they take in the form of services and the general expenses  of maintaining them .

well i think legal immigrants are not bad for any country's economy...they are normally educated folks and never contribute to crime much.......but as far as illegal immigrants are considered, they really act as parasites to the economy in my opinion....i aint american...and i still think US immigration policy regarding illegal immigrants is way too lenient....people just get through borders..,...spend some time in US and get a refugee status....which almost paves the way for permanent residency......this is wrong for the US economy and soceity in general....thin, this way so many drug dealers , criminals and smuglers can find a way into your country...especially from some south-american countries( i ma sorry if anyone is offended by this, but i am saying the way it is today in US).......gun culture is unfortunately increasing multiple times in the united states of america...drugs are also a major problem and believe it or not....a lot of it is connected with smuggling through the borders and many illegal immigrants are also involved....thats what i have hrd...i aint pointing fingers at anyone but as far as my opinion is considered, illegal immigrants should be dealt with harshly......

They drive down the price of labor and take jobs from Americans. Pro immigration people will say it's jobs Americans don't want and won't do, however when raids were done at the meat packign plant in Nebraska I believe it was and arrested hundreds of illegals the next day there was a line thousands of people long waiting to apply for those jbos no American would want. They also steal social security numbers and cause problems for individuals. They then use a ton of services and medical facilities and are responsivle for closing hospitals after making them go bankrupt from treating people and not getting paid.

Well, to my "friend" HOW IT IS... I was illegal for 6 years in this country. Once I got sick and I applied for welfare ( I have a kid who was born here) . There was not a single latin woman in there, they were all african-american with a bunch of kids and the WHITE  junk from the streets asking for shelter.

--Ok, first of all, Illegal people cant work in big companies, they don't have a ssn or work permit, so they can't take away any job from you sweetheart.

Second: they do send money home, but they buy clothes, buy cars, food, they pay for entertaiment like you do.

And These Illegal Immigrantes work their asssssesss so hard that you can not imagine. Would you dishwash?

I do not defend Illegal people. But the only thing I know is that we must respect them as human beings.  We don't know what this people have been thru.  Let tem live their lives. And let the government do their jobs.

Well, since the first Europeans arrived, they began to make things bad. It took a while, but they seized the lands from the native Americans for a handful of marbles

The native Americans had no notion of land being purchased. Their idea was that the skies, the waters, and the land belonged to everybody

It was not until too late that they realized that the "white man" played dirty. Later, they said that the "white man" did not fulfill their treaties, even when they were in writing

In the XIX century, there was a treaty between certain tribes and the USA government to respect some lands considered sacred by the natives. But later, gold was found in those lands and illegal miners began to invade them.

Then, the natives realized that the "white men" did not fulfill their own treaty and decided to enforce their own laws, customs, rules, as you like to call them.

They began to scalp the illegal miners until the illegal miners got the message and left
