Why are insane people so creative and clever??

I was reading Aliza Shvarts's story (abortion girl) and i got reminded of this question. I mean she goes to Yale so obviously she's clever and she's an art major so she's pretty creative BUT the whole abortion thing is INSANE!

It has to do with temperament Mine is melancholy which is artistic and poetic and supposedly genius prone (I haven't seen that in me though)I battle depression everyday and I am super sensitive I have been since birth my first depression was at seven years old and I am a square peg in a round world but I am learning to embrace this part of me it is just taking me a while I have heard it said you will find more melancholies in mental institutes than any other temperament

Because they do not have the same limits on their imagination as that of people who abide by society's expectations.

They do not follow the status quo. The "status quo" is what society as whole considers to be normal. People who think outside of this "normal" are seen as "crazy" or "insane" and yes, "creative" and "clever." They do not limit their imaginations and are willing to try new things or consider things in a new light. And they generally do this at the risk of being labeled "insane" or "crazy."
